Hot Science: Lady Boner pill

elf orgasm

I hate to be the one that points this out but Viagra went on the market in 1998 and it took – um let me do the math – 20 YEARS for anyone to make a pill that helps women get off. And, face it, the orgasm gap was already way, waaaay in favor of dudes.

According to the Canadian National Post two thirds of women would take a pill to help them get off more often, which unless the other third said they wanted the pill to make them come harder, is vastly under-representing the real number.

What glorious times we live in when orgasm science has caught up to women. But it’s not without it’s oppnents.

Thea Cacchioni, a women’s studies professor at the University of Victoria, isn’t so sure lack of drugs are the problem.

I may be a humble scribbler of erotica but I like to think I know a little bit about sex. And this sounds familiar:

There’s little scientific evidence that desire is something strictly physiological that can be shaped with a pill, Cacchioni said. Instead, numerous psychological and social factors come into play — work stress, raising kids, feelings of shame about their body.

Many women struggle with a culture of “compulsory sexuality,” she has said. The word she has heard in interviews with women about their sexuality was “chore.”

Still, “I think that if there was a drug that worked, there is going to be a big market of women who will decide it is worth it,” Cacchioni said.

“Do I think that’s what would be best for them? Do I think that’s what research on sexuality supports? Not necessarily, she said.

“But I think it could be popular.”

Maybe you should try a different approach, like reading some unicorn erotica. You know, just to be scientific.
